About The 490 Project

We envision a world where people and compassion are prioritized over capital and compliance. Where people on the margins are centered and liberated from all forms of oppression thereby able to embody endless possibilities for thriving.

We envision a world where wealth is redistributed equitably via individual and systemic reparations.

We envision a world where white people take responsibility for ending white supremacy by entering white spaces as disruptors.

To bring this world to fruition, we will be revolutionaries, imagining and experimenting with ways of living together that have never been tried but are necessary for our collective freedom.

The 490 Project is working towards a Louisville where every member of our community has what they need to thrive and is safe from police violence.

We do this by:

  • collectively reimagining safety

  • exposing historically corrupt oppressive systems

  • organizing for investment in community care

  • organizing for divestment from and dismantling of policing and white supremacy

Where does the 490 come from? If you take Louisville’s area code, 502, and subtract 12 (slang for police), you get 490.

Do you believe another Louisville is possible? Join us.
